About Us...

How we stumbled into running a bed and breakfast in Troutbeck

Monica and Brian Liddell

We moved to the Lakes in December 1999, after chancing on a 'For Sale' sign outside Fellside while we were on a walking holiday away from our then home in Cheshire.

We spent our first two years renovating Fellside, and we also both ran our own businesses here for the first four years, Monica as a personal counsellor and Brian as a marketing consultant.

Since then we've both retired, but we seem to be busier than ever. We both enjoy walking, we've made lots of new friends in Troutbeck and Ambleside, and somehow we fit in holidays cycling in Scotland, growing vegetables, designing websites, woodworking, cooking, baking, changing beds, cleaning loos, cutting grass...

Luckily we've got our wonderful family to help keep us sane - Simon, Ben and Laura, who all seem to love visiting us in our wonderful new home in the Lakes.
